31 — Course description

1.1 Introduction

Welcome to the "CPR/AED – ISS Level (6h)" training, recognized by the Ordre des Infirmiers et Infirmières du Québec (OIIQ) and by the Ordre des Infirmiers et Infirmières Auxiliaires du Québec (OIIAQ). This six-hour session is specifically designed to meet the requirements of healthcare professionals working in the federal service, by offering advanced training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

By participating in this training, you enhance your ability to save lives and meet the continuing education criteria required by your professional order, contributing to your ongoing professional development.

4Certification upon completion

Certification upon completion
At the end of this intensive session, you will earn annual training hour credits as well as a "CPR/AED – ISS Level (6h)" certification, valid for a determined period. This certification attests to your ability to intervene effectively in cardiorespiratory emergencies.

51.2 Course objectives

The main objective is to provide healthcare professionals with the advanced skills needed to respond expertly in emergency situations, with a focus on cardiorespiratory arrests (CRA) and associated medical emergencies. Specific objectives include:

Mastery of CPR and AED techniques adapted to the healthcare professional context: interventions in cases of cardiorespiratory arrest and airway obstruction in adults, children and infants, including advanced resuscitation practice, use of the AED and the bag-valve mask.

Specific management of respiratory emergencies in a medical context: choking and other respiratory emergencies in patients of all age groups.

Management of basic oxygen therapy as well as severe hemorrhage management — mandatory elements for this federal standard training.

61.3 Teaching approach

The training is designed to immerse participants in dynamic, interactive learning. The key components of the teaching approach are:

Active, inductive learning: each session begins with a scenario exercise that immediately places participants at the heart of an emergency.

Integration of theory and practice: alternating between theoretical readings and practical applications, simulations of emergency medical scenarios.

Advanced technologies and educational resources: interactive modules, demonstration videos, practical sessions.

Continuous assessment and access to an instructor: regular quizzes, constructive discussions available at any time.

Teaching by experts: all instructors are experienced healthcare professionals.

At-home practice: exercises to be performed at home with theoretical supports for continuous review.

71.4 Learning activities

Additional readings:

Although no preparatory reading is mandatory, we encourage participants to explore additional resources: bibliography and guidelines available on the FRSQC platform.

Interactive presentations:

Interactive modules hosted on our platform integrate multimedia elements and interactive quizzes to test and reinforce understanding on an ongoing basis.

Practical exercises:

Scenarios and simulations of emergency situations complement theoretical knowledge. A free mobile app also guides participants through various practice scenarios.

81.5 Supervision

For any question, information request or assistance need, our team is available by email at [email protected] and via the built-in chat on our platform. A virtual assistant is available 24/7 to answer common questions. All requests received are processed within 48 business hours.

In addition to these channels, online educational resources, training guides and continuous access to course updates are provided.

264 — Theoretical instruction, assessments and practice

4.1 Theoretical instruction

Theoretical instruction is designed to provide a solid, detailed understanding of the essential principles and practices of first aid.

Completion of required readings:

It is crucial to complete all assigned readings before progressing through the program. After finishing each reading section, you must click the "COMPLETED" button. This action is mandatory and confirms that you have absorbed the presented content.

Interactive medical glossary:

Throughout the training path, you will encounter highlighted medical terms. Hovering over these terms will display an information bubble with a short definition. A link will direct you to our online medical glossary for a detailed description.

27"Explanations" sections — Optional but recommended

"Explanations" sections — Optional but recommended
The "Explanations" sections offer additional details and enriching context. Their content is not assessed, but they can significantly improve your ability to apply the skills in real situations.

284.2 Theoretical assessments

Assessment format:

At the end of each reading module, a multiple-choice quiz will be offered to test your understanding. Each quiz must be completed within 60 minutes.

Pass criteria:

To advance to the next module, you must obtain a score of at least 80%. If you fail to reach this score, you will have the opportunity to retake the test up to 10 times. A "Need a hint?" button is available to help you.

29Intervention after repeated failures

Intervention after repeated failures
If you fail to pass the test after 10 attempts, direct intervention by an FRSQC instructor will be required to identify and address the specific difficulties encountered.

304.3 Practical sessions

Preparing for the practical session:

Before each practical session, you will be guided in building a CPR manikin using everyday objects. This innovative method allows you to practice resuscitation maneuvers in an accessible, safe and controlled environment.

How it works:

During the practical session, you must activate an animated video specifically designed to guide participants through the different steps of the CPR maneuvers. Our automated system monitors the time spent on each session. Progress through the course is blocked until the session is fully completed.

Technology support:

The FRSQC mobile app is a valuable resource available to all participants, usable both during learning sessions and in real situations, offering step-by-step guides and procedure reminders.

315 — Deadline management

From the date of purchase of your training, you have 10 weeks to complete the entire program. This timeframe is designed to allow sufficient flexibility while encouraging steady progress.

If no activity is recorded on your account for more than 10 weeks, your account will be temporarily suspended. To reactivate it, you will need to contact FRSQC at [email protected]. Our support team is available to assist you in this process.
